nailed it

I think the hardest part about moving to a new house is deciding what to hang on the walls. It always feels like such a commitment.  So, the blank wall in the dining room has been staring at me for months and up until recently I had no idea what to do.  Then I started taking an Adobe Illustrator class and it seemed like with every project that was assigned, I started trying to find a way to turn it into something for our home.  Last night was my final class and the final project was of our choice.

Thanks to some cool design blogs I stalk and Pinterest (another awesome site you should check out), I was really struck by the modern revival of 18th century Victorian silhouette portraits and thought they would be perfect for our home.  I also had a number of frames leftover from the other side of the house that held some professional pictures and wedding photos.  I decided to combine them all for a large display wall.  Below you can see how I mapped out the space ahead of time...

then hung the photographs...

and then this weekend I added the silhouettes...

In the space above Cassidy's portraits I plan on getting a small ampersand or letter "W" to hang.  And then of course one day soon, we'll have to add a forth silhouette!
