Saturday was Cassidy's first birthday party. We had a really great time with some of the most incredible friends and family a little girl could ask for. It was a casual get together with around 30 people and a handful of little ones. We made chili with cornbread, chicken tortilla soup, salad, and ordered sandwiches from Pizza Gourmet. I took a personal day on Friday to labor over Cassidy's first birthday monkey cake, one layer of chocolate and two of banana, both covered in cream cheese frosting. I used a recipe for marshmallow fondant which is apparently much more forgiving than regular fondant. If interested, the recipe can be found here. I think it turned out cute, but it was definitely a little stressful. Aunt JoJo also brought her famous banana pudding which is to die for!
Cassidy didn't really "dig" into her portion of the cake, but enjoyed squishing it through her fingers and trying to feed Mommy and Daddy. She received so many thoughtful and fun gifts! Although she didn't really get the whole unwrapping presents thing, she certainly enjoyed the boxes her gifts came in as well as the taste of wrapping paper. At least she got some practice for Christmas.
We really had a wonderful time and are so thankful to have all of you in our lives. We couldn't have survived this first year without you!

We are so sad we missed the party. Happy b-day Cass! And wow, great job on the cake and decorations! You are making the rest of us and our "pretty cakes" look bad. Keep it up!
