fundraising

On December 10th, my classroom was robbed overnight. I had written grants two years ago to buy iBook G4 laptops for my classroom and I had also designed a class utilizing these laptops to create artwork in Photoshop and short films in iMovie. My entire laptop cart was empty when I returned to work on Tuesday. I teach at an inner city school in which kids do not have many techological opportunities, so this has really impacted not only my teaching, but my students. All of the work they have created throughout the year was saved on the laptops and is now lost.

My Digital Media classes are obviously very upset, but are now feeling empowered to raise funds to buy new computers. It's been really nice to see how passionate they feel about the situation and it restores my faith in my students. Today we are being interviewed by the local news station, trying to put a "face" on the crime and hopefully the community will rise to the occasion and help us out. I know a number of you asked how you could help. Absolutely no pressure, whatsoever, but if you would like to send tax-deductible charitable contribution to the school, we have set up an account. The address is:

Hope High School
324 Hope Street
Providence, RI 02906

Please make the check out to Hope High School, but put "laptop fundraiser" in the memo so it goes in the correct account. I will personally make sure each of you gets a receipt so you can file it with your taxes.

Thank you again for all of your support this week, it has made such a difference!
